PRINCE2: 2009 Refresh
PRINCE2™ is being refreshed as part of its lifecycle. Its name is not changing but there will be fundamental enhancements to the method. Since its launch in 1996, there have only been two major updates of PRINCE2™. The updates had a few incremental improvements. The method itself has remained largely unchanged whilst today's pace of change and level of connected communication mean that projects now face challenges that simply did not exist in 1996.
The guidance is based on real life experiences and PRINCE2™ is no exception. Keeping up-to-date with a changing business environment and with the latest research in the world of project management requires a continual cycle of review and renewal. Refreshing PRINCE2™ will improve and enhance the current version by providing:
- greater consistency with related products such as MSP™ (Managing Successful Programmes) and M_o_R® (Management of Risk);
- additional guidance to look at specific areas such as procurement projects;
- a lighter PRINCE2™, presented with more simplicity to address perceptions that it is bureaucratic;
- information and guidance about benefits realisation in projects; and
- improved complementary products.
The refreshed product will continue to be supported by a qualification scheme and presents the method in a way that makes its adoption and adaptation easier for all users.
